Healing Properly with Your
Liposuction Garment
Most liposuction proponents will tell you that recovery from
this surgical procedure is usually faster compared to major
surgical procedures like face lifts. Liposuction still does
involve a recovery period though and during this time your
constant companion may be your liposuction garment.
Liposuction Damage
A procedure like liposuction would not have been approved if
it were not generally safe to use. The procedure however comes
with its own set of risks and recovery signs for which you will
need a special liposuction garment.
Liposuction is a procedure that is intended to result in an
improved appearance and body tone. Before you can get your
desired results however, you may have to bear some damage to
some part of your body. Whether you like it or not, this
cosmetic procedure first produces some trauma to the
liposuctioned area. The movement of the cannula in the incision
and the actual suctioning of the fats damage some cells,
tissues, blood vessels and capillaries. All this damage however
is normal and necessary for this body toning procedure. You
should probable watch out though that the damage doesn’t extend
to the nerves and organs.
Swelling
Swelling for which a liposuction garment is used is the
body’s natural reaction to the damage to its cells. An area may
swell when the cannula hits sensitive cells that release fluids
and chemicals. Swelling that develops a few hours or days after
surgery is the result of cells, tissues and blood vessels
scrambling to repair the damaged area. Blood and fluids may be
brought to the area that needs repair. At the same time, waste
fluids also need to be brought out from the area.
If you have had a tumescent procedure, then you should
really expect swelling two days or so after the procedure. From
the name of the procedure itself, tumescent means swelling or
expanding. There is simply no way around it but to wear a
liposuction garment.
Liposuction Garment
A liposuction garment is supposed to assist in fluid
drainage, provide support and comfort to the liposuctioned
area, encourage skin tightening, reduce swelling and promote
better fluid and blood circulation. The design and style of
your liposuction garment will depend on the area covered. The
most common liposuction garment example would be the white
elastic material that looks like long underwear worn by women
who have had cellulite thigh liposuction. As a general rule,
your liposuction garment should be a size smaller than your
body hugging gym clothes.
Disagreement
There seems to be a wide disagreement now regarding the use
and wear of liposuction garments. These garments are usually
worn for weeks even while the patient has returned to work.
Others claim however that recent technology will allow the
removal of a liposuction garment three days after surgery when
fluid drainage stops. Others also simply rely on adits to
promote drainage instead of liposuction garments.
The best way to ensure that you are using your garment
properly is to consult your doctor. Ask him which type of
garment you should wear and when you should stop wearing the
garment.
